Hawkins Mikita Supports First LGBTQ Town Hall, co-hosted by Human Rights Campaign

Hawkins Mikita attended and supported the first LGBTQ Town Hall, co-hosted by Human Rights Campaign. Nine of the party's leading presidential contenders participated, co-hosted with CNN in Los Angeles. The inaugural Town Hall also included the first openly gay Presidential candidate, Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

Topics ranged from the need for non-discrimination protections in federal law, banning harmful practices such as conversion therapy and lifting debunked restrictions on the gay community when they try to donate blood.

Frequently, protesters erupted from the audience who highlighted the epidemic of violence agains the transgender community, especially those of color. One even took a microphone during former Texas Rep. Beto O'Rourke's appearance.
